Jackson bus station

The architect who offices in this building now has kept it's look as a greyhound bus station. There is even a striking round blue stained glass window of a greyhound inside. Here in Jackson the freedom riders were not beaten but were escorted straight off the buses into paddy wagons and jailed. Wave after wave, they kept coming. 328 freedom riders were arrested, some shipped to the infamous state penitentiary and even placed in solitary confinement there. What courage!

  1. Thank you for sharing the story of Medgar Evers in photos and this horrific time in our history...a time that has largely passed. I couldn't say that if it weren't for the bravery of so many who gave their lives, who were beaten and imprisoned. Today we have Barack Obama for president, such progress...but we held much fear, which hasn't fully dissipated for me...because there are some out there filled with hatred, with racism. Still we have made great strides.

  2. So hard to believe that these things happened in our lifetime. And yes, today we have Barack Obama, an example of how things CAN change.
